The screw pile foundation limited conventional footing excavation around the residential yard and allowed the project to move toward framing without waiting for poured concrete footings to cure.

Stoney Creek projects follow City of Hamilton requirements.

Stoney Creek is part of the City of Hamilton, so building permits for decks, additions, garages, porches, and similar construction are handled through the City's Building Division. Requirements depend on the structure, size, height, location, attachment, and complete project scope.

The City currently requires a building permit for any deck or porch attached to a building. Certain detached decks also require permits based on their area, height above grade, whether they are covered, and their relationship to a door or other structure.

Even where a building permit is not required, zoning and other applicable regulations still apply. Depending on the individual property, the City of Hamilton's current zoning by-law or provisions from the former City of Stoney Creek zoning framework may apply, so property-specific zoning should be confirmed before finalizing the design.

Projects near natural features or the Niagara Escarpment can also involve additional review from the applicable authority. This does not mean every Upper Stoney Creek project requires additional approval; requirements depend on the actual location and scope.
